Tubal Ligation Reversal Surgery - BTA

A tubal ligation reversal surgery is a procedure that involves reconnecting the Fallopian tubes after a tubal ligation.  The surgery is performed under a microscope to allow the doctor to see the inside opening of the tubes and reconnect the tubes using very small sutures.  The procedure can be used to reverse most all types of tubal ligation procedures including, rings, clamps, and burning.  The tubes are very delicate.  Selecting an experienced surgeon you can trust is often more important than finding the cheapest tubal reversal surgery.  We don't have any hidden fees and our doctor has been performing microscopic tubal reversal surgeries for over 20 years.

Bilateral Tubal Anastomosis (BTA)

This procedure is also known as a tubal reversal.  A woman who has had a previous tubal ligation by clips, rings, or fulguration may be a candidate for a tubal reanastomosis or tubal reversal surgery.  In this procedure an incision is made into the abdomen to gain access to the Fallopian tubes. The ends of the Fallopian tubes are then incised to expose the lumen, or opening of the tube. The two lumens of the tube are then carefully reattached under the microscope. Once the tubes themselves are reattached, the outer covering, or serosa, of the tubes are brought together over the top of the inner portion of the tube. Colored dye is then used to test the repair and confirm the Fallopian tubes are open.

Pregnancy rates with reanastomosis procedures depend on several factors.  The Fallopian tubes must remain open, or patent.  The next factor is based on a woman's age and other factors that may affect overall fertility.  More than 75% of women will be able to conceive following a successful reanastomosis.  This number may be higher or lower depending on your individual circumstances.  An HSG may be used 8-12 months or more after a reanastomosis to test the tubes to be sure they are still open.

At California IVF, we have our own operating room in our spacious fertility center and patients are discharged on the same day.  Dr. Zeringue has extensive experience performing tubal reversals.  Since 1994, he has been helping women get pregnant through microsurgery.  While serving in the Air Force, Dr. Zeringue performed tubal reversals on women from across the United States and even overseas.  His perfected technique results in a very high success rate for both completion of surgery and subsequent pregnancy rates.  This success combined with an affordable package price makes tubal reversal an excellent alternative to IVF for many women.

If you would like to discuss your options for tubal reanastomosis or would like to compare a tubal reversal to IVF please contact the our office to schedule a meeting with one of our physicians.  We can answer any questions you may have about your individual situation and help you to decide what your best option may be.  If possible, bring copies of operative reports, pathology reports, or any HSG done after the tubal procedure.  You can request these documents from the hospital where your tubal ligation surgery was performed as well as the doctor that performed the procedure.  One copy of the operative report and one copy of the pathology report will help the doctor understand they type of surgery you had and the potential to have the tubal ligation reversed.
